MEET SENSEI MATTHEW BROADHEAD

UAK FOUNDER & HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Matthew Broadhead, born and raised in the United Kingdom, has practiced Wado Ryu karate since 1998. In his 20+ year tenure, he has competed all across the globe, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Italy, Malta, Spain, Australia, United States and more.


Some of his accomplishments include:

  • UWK/WUKF World Kumite Champion (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2023)

  • UWK England Team Kumite World Champions (2015)

  • WUKF Triple European Kumite Champion 2017 (Open Weight, Heavyweight, Team)

  • Victoria Karate League Australia: Gold Medal Kumite (2016)

  • Championships Cup Winner (2017)

  • AAU USA National Heavyweight Champion, Fort Lauderdale (2018)

  • British National Champion (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022)


In addition, he acted as Head of Martial Arts at Camp Walden in New York from 2013 - 2015, coaching hundreds of students.

Matthew has a BSc from Buckinghamshire New University in Sports Science and Coaching. His hands-on experience in different cultures, teaching students of ranging ability levels over the past 20 years, is something he hopes to use to help you on your martial arts journey - no matter your experience level.
